Its the best of times and the worst of times at my place now. I just got a pair of BM5A's, which I have been desiring for a long time now. I hooked them up and blammo, lots of radio noise coming out. the thing is... it comes out even when there is NO audio cables attached!!! One seems to be worse than the other.

Heres the bad part... I live about 1/4 mile from 3 huge radio station towers.

Is there ANY way to get less radio signal... anything at all that I could do to fix this.

A couple pounds of C4 on each leg of the radio tower may be the easiest, but will be expensive and probably curtail your freedom for 10-20 years, minus good behavior. Sorry, man, bad RF problems suck.

A couple other things to try:

It may be coming in on your AC lines. A power strip with RF protection may help. Try before you buy, this might not help at all. At least make sure you can return it.

It may be coming in through your cable TV, if you have it. Try unplugging your cable, even if it's not hooked to your recording setup in any way. Ungrounded cable is a pain in the ass.

Make sure your gear is grounded.

Move them. A few inches or feet may make a huge difference. Try a different length of AC cord. Really. It might help.

Move yourself. A few miles will certainly help.

After that, I dont know. Are they shielded for use with monitors? If not, can they be? Cover them in copper paint or sheets? Redesign the inputs for better RF rejection?

have you had any other Actives that did this?
is it 100% of the time?
reproduces it without any audio cables attached? damn?

I would say try your AC cables.... go buy a high-dollar true conditioner if you can, just to try..you can take back if you can't afford the $$.
Those arew shileded can't imagine the RF getting into the wiring of the amplifier...$5 on the AC.
good luck.

I have been on both ends of this senario as the eng at the station and as someone with radio in a guitar amp...Call the radio station and ask to speak to the chief engineer at his convenience or even set up an appointment..Most will give several good suggestions for eliminating the interference...

I am not familar with the innards of that speaker but in some cases running the wires from the power supply thru ferrite beads helps.. If the volume control has no effect then it is coming in on the inputs and putting ferrite beads on them might help...Find out what the wavelength is of the radio station and cut your speaker cables in odd multiple wave lengths. Dont roll any cables into a loop. The eng can give you the length...

I have fought this problem sometimes for months... Good luck....
