Hi guys- I've got a BlueTube preamp that I'm suspicious of not having enough phantom power. The pre works fine with mics that don't need phantom power but when I plug in my SM-81 (uses +48v phantom, which the BlueTube has a button for), the sound on the mic cuts out after 20 seconds or so. The mic tests fine on another pre. When I turn the pad on, the mic doesn't seem to cut out but I don't want to constantly use the pad. Am I correct in guessing it's probably a problem with the pre, and has anyone had a similar problem before? I have yet to try using a different outlet for the pre. Could that help? Thanks for any advice! :)

The SM81 is fine with less than standard phantom, so I would suspect something with the preamp is defective. Have you tried another condenser mic with the pre?

My other condenser has its own power supply. :( I have a spare TubePre that I will try it on. I've been using both channels of the BlueTube at the same time without a problem, so the phantom power use is the only variable I can think of.

The TubePre seems to power the mic just fine. Guess it's time to see how good that "power play protection" (or whatever it's called) warranty is at Guitar Center. . . :P

Did you try a different mic cable. You may have an intermittent short.

I actually used the same cables (in and out) with the BlueTube and the TubePre. :( I think I just got a bum BlueTube.
