I am happy that you like the dragonfly. Do me a favor, record the same vocal track with both a dragonfly and an AT4060 or a 414b/uls. Do me another favor. Dont throw the dragonfly away when you hear the results-there is always someone willing to pay something for it on ebay. :D

You should know. Just about everything you've ever owned has wound up there at some point in time.

I can do one better than your suggestion: How about I just pick any one of the mics you mentioned randomly, learn how to use it and most of all hone my vocal and/or mixing talents instead of just blaming my shortcomings on the gear and then selling it?

at some point you gotta pound the nail in if you want to build a house..I don't like the TLM103 or the C1 or C3, MLX V67..But if I had to use them I would and that includes the AKG C1000's  Just figure out what they work on!Everything will shine somewhere..Well maybe not the C1000's LOL

I'll dismiss that comment because I respect you as a person

Hot damn! I think we have actually all agreed on 2 things:
1. Vocal mic choice is very subjective. I sound a hell of a lot better on a bunch of stuff on the NTK Cyanjaguar thinks is a piece of shit. (which is flat out untrue), than I do on the U87. I, too, am glad you have a mic you like to sing through. I would like to own (an older) U87 also, but Kiwi works for my voice, and it is a great mic.

2. The Blueberry is almost nobody's first choice for a vocal mic. I'm sure it's good for something, but I'll be damned if I know what it is, *and* it's ugly. Littledog has one that's had a mod done for him by B.L.U.E. They are apparently quite responsive to requests for mods. According to Littledog, he likes the mic much more after some factory tweaking.

Right back at 'cha. I apologize for getting all worked up.

But you have to admit, you tend to change your mind a lot. :D I predict a year from now you'll be saying the u87 sucks and you'll be on to something else. :D

Actually, that's not quite accurate. I have a BLUE Mouse that I hated that was tweaked by the factory to fit more with my personal tastes (not as much hi end hype), and it is now a perfectly useable mic (although still rarely my first choice on vocals).

The nice thing about my whole experience with BLUE was they called me and begged me to let them have a chance at modifying it for me once they heard i was unhappy. Even Skipper called (the owner) which certainly made me feel like they really cared.

Can't beat that for customer service.

Oops, LD, I new you had a mouse up, but memory fails in my old age. So who thinks Blueberry rocks, come on, jump into the ring and face the gorillas.-Richie

I think it's great on accoustic guitar and/or anyone who has a dull voice. Otherwise, it's way too bright.

:D thats true. Hopefully I'll never change my mind about a u87 because the only way up from that is over $10000 in a u47 :D

actually, the best step up for your U-87 would be to send it to Stephen Paul for a modification. That would transform it from "very nice" to "holy shit! I'll never in my life sing on anything else except this specific mic!" (and that wouldn't be just you, but everyone who tries it...) Ever consider it?

then again, Stephen's new "cheapo" may be a huge step up as well. (And a possible mind-changer, assuming an open mind...)

Speaking of the Stephan Paul Mic,
anyone know how close it is to being available,
how much it will go for, & where we can read about it?

Wow! I haven't heard a U195, but Cyan's post has to be the first one I've ever seen that described it as a piece of *&*?t!
