Okay i want to upgrade my vocal mic, I already have a Audio-technica AT3035 but it could sound better. I stopped on two mic, which i'm hesitating between the two : blue (blubird) and rode (ntk) . I'm recording mainly male vocals on pop to hardcore bands. I don't want to spend more than 500$ US. Persononaly I think i love more the Bluebird, can I have your opinion between the two ?

Haven't heard the Bluebird, and sense it's relatively new I suspect you won't find too many people here who have yet. There is a quite a bit of information to be found here on the NTK though. Do a search for "NTK"...you'll come up with tons of threads to sift through.

I have one, so I'll give you the highlights:

Great on vocals and acoustic guitar, very nice as room mics for drums, usable on just about everything

Well-documented upper-midrange bump, easily correctible with eq

Not so great for sibilant singers/female singers

Overall a very good vocal mic, "warm" (if that's even an acceptable term anymore) and present.

Good luck

...I second the vote for the NTK...very nice on male vocals in particular...built like a tank too...excellent spider-mount for it (SM2)...recommended...

Thanks for your answers ! For those who does not know yet the Blubird, check out this site http://www.bluemic.com/ and tell me what you think about it! Just click on "bluebird" at the top of the page. thanks

I own the Bluebird and one of my musical comrades owns the NTK. Both of them are kick ass vocal mics. As expected, the NTK is little warmer. (The Bluebird is bright at 16K.)

However....

In my opinion, the NTK doesn't perform very well in other applications. I've experimented with the Bluebird a lot and it's an amzingly versatile mic. I use it regularly on acoustic instruments, guitar cabs, as a room mic and a drum OH. As we know, a "stick it anywhere" mic is extremely valuable in the world of tight-budget recording.

My friend with the NTK prefers the Bluebird. I think it'll give you more bang for your buck.

Either way you go, you have a solid mic.

...... the Bluebird looks cooler too

why not the baby bottle. i used it and loved it ( never used t bird or ntk though) and the things won some awards i think. seems like that was the last good blue mic b4 the ball downward spiral and now im leary of their new stuff.

go with the baby bottle!
