are there any secrets or tips to getting guitar parts to mesh together? I do mainly the basic clean and acoustic parts then your crunchy distortion and I have a hell of a time getting them to go together into one flowing piece.

Yo ALLY which is different than ALLEY:

Don't know what you're using to record with? Hmmmm!

But, you might try running some of your "softer" guitar parts direct into the recorder.

I'm guessing, only guessing, that you are running everything through an outboard amplifier; this, seems to me, would create a problem with levels, effects, and mixing.

Like man, if you mix vodka and orange juice, it will blend; if you mix water and oil, it doesn't blend. But, since I know little of your gear, I'm just "supposing."

Ally,
I've often had the same problem getting stuff to blend well, not just guitars though, it could be anything. I usually don't realize it until mixing, that one (or more) parts just don't blend well; they seem to stick out, or sound like overdubs done on another planet and then returned to me to mix.

I think the place to start is the actual recording. Try re-recording the offending part with a little different sound. A different EQ, more (or less) compression, a different reverb, etc. Then see if it sounds more like it belongs there. Someday, maybe we'll be able to get it right the first time, and elinminate the headaches.
