I plan on recording the guitar over with less distortion, but what do you think of it?

Drums are distant and lack some punch. I agree it should be less distortion on guitar, the tone of the guitar doesn't match the lead vox timbre; the singing is too "gentle" for that much crunch. A more blusey sound will suit it better. Vox need a little edge in the EQ, for my taste, and are a little dry and a teeny bit upfront. It's kinda like "OK, I'm a guitarist and singer, and here's a song; oh, yeah, I suppose some drums and bass ought to be in there so it sounds more like a band"; a guitarist-centric mix... The playing is fine, though if you printed the effects on the guitar, you should re-cut, I agree.

VSPlanet huh? I remember fondly my VS880EX; it was my first rig... I had to print my effects back them too, could never figure out how to run the post sends... :)

Sounds like the guitar is clipping or something maybe at the beginning...

Kind of sounds like the singing is on top of the music... And now it sounds like the guitar is clipping more than distorting...

Try to get your drums fatter sounding... The bass and kick drum should usually be a team... The bass seems louder... Cymbal crashes seem a bit loud too...

Nice vocals Dan as usual. No midi files? Thats a plus. This would be fun to do a solo on.

Thanks, fonts... er, notfonts... So, I really fooled ya? The bass is Dimension Pro and and drums are BFD XFL...

monkeymanx and Llarion... agree with most of that and I've already made the adjustments on vocal and cymbals.

As far as the guitar sound, I'm getting Native Instruments Guitar Rig 2 soon and will be able to record clean and do all the amp and stomp box sims internally, so I can get the sound I hear in my head, I hope.

So far as the drums, I recorded that from BFD in stereo mode, that is, not as individual tracks. The great thing about BFD is that you can apply it in "All" mode which makes each tom, over/under snare mic, inside/outside kick mic, overhead mic, distant mics and pietzo mic a separate track for more detailed processing capabilities.

Thanks for listening and the comments.

What was your VSPlanet handle? I still have my VS880EX, but now only use it for location recording. I use SONAR now.

I didn't find out about Planet till I'd already moved to a Korg D1600 (my remote unit now); and I now use Audition; but I'm Llarion anywhere in the world... Nobody ever uses this name..

To make this spot on you need something like Tony Joe White's Swamp Box. It'd match the vocals & the songs structure.
Nice & as my teachers always said..."please resubmit".
