Big news for me, probably not at all for you

Hi Kikling!

You will need to buy a 1/8" Stereo to dual Mono "y" adapter. This will allow you to record a pair of Stereo tracks at 1 time.
You should be able to get it at Radio Shack for about $5.00 or so....

most any soundcard made in the last 5 years or so is going to have a stereo line in, as explained earlier in the thread. on my behringer mx602a (like yours but with only 2 pres), i just run the tape out through a stereo 1/8" (also known as motorola) to dual RCA (also known as phono) cord into my line in. nice pretty stereo like we all know and love. hope that makes things simple enough. experiment with the levels until you get as near to 0db as possible without clipping (i presume cool edit tells you when it clips? i haven't touched it for 4 or 5 years).. i'm sure you already know some of this, but i figured i'd spell it all out for posterity. congrats on finally getting cracking-recording can be loads of fun/trouble, and i'm a bit of a newbie myself. best of luck!

Keep it up...

It is so great that you have something like this to focus on at your age... You know most of us who've been around a while think that your generation is deteriorating to the point where actual chops and recording smarts may soon be part of a long past era...

Well, I am so pleased to see someone like yourself start the way most of us did (As mentioned in all the great posts here), and getting satisfaction from your work also...

Don't worry about the "big" gear, right now... Remember the reason you've decided to record in the first place is because of the music you have inside you... Not, because you want to "one-up" someone... (Well, maybe just a little!) And believe me - by the time you have money to sink into that cool recording console, the gear will be even better than what it is now... So, don't despair!

Keep positive -And- Congratulations...

Just one...

I think you've just become the first official "adopted son" of homerecording.com :D

I started over dubs in 1965 at the age of 10 . I had my Telex Viking and my Lafayette reel to reels and a mono bogen 6 channel mixer. I could do 2 seperate tracks on the Lafayette then mix one of the channels through the Bogen and add more. I have recently put some of these tapes to CD. My brother played many trumpet parts while I played drums, bassand piano.I still have all of these machines and tapes.
