Big Friggin Problem

Alright, This is pretty friggin Knarly. I have a vestax, 4-track mr300 ancient analog cassete recorder. Now I have my music stored on a program for my playstation,(sounds stupid right?)but believe me its good stuff. I have the tv plugged into the vcr,and the vcr linked to the vestax via rca chords. Now the problem I have is I bought A serious mic, A behringer b2 studio mic. I have the XLR-1/4 inch cord and have set it up in all three input jacks and have not been able to record any vocals over the music, the music comes in like a dream but I have no Idea how to use this mic. Also I have tried to use a basic little sony kareoke mic in the inputs and it has worked slightly but sounds like crap. Well, I've got good new and bad news for you.

The good news is that your B2 is a condensor microphone and should give you much better sound quality than the sony mic.

The bad news is that it needs a preamp or external power supply that gives it phantom power. Condensor mics need a little bit of power and won't do anything without it.

My guess is that you'll want to do one of two things: either return the B2 and get a mic that doesn't need phantom power (Like a Shure SM57 or SM58) or find out about getting an inexpensive source of phantom power.

I can't help you too much with inexpensive phantom power if you want to go that route, but hopefully someone will be along shortly who can. If not, I'll do a little digging and see what I can come up with.

But, on another note .... have you considered using something other that your "playstation" for recording?
