wow - great tips in this thread! thanks a lot guys. i am mixing drums for our band at the moment and i will try both the SSL LMC-1 and the recording of my monitors as i didn't record with room mic's (not enough left).

...You can then mix the room sound in with your drums and apply compression, saturation, distortion, etc to embiggen them further...

Embiggen.... thats a verb I gotta use sometime
