ok, so i have this real compromise going on with my monitoring, and its time i stop it.

i added a sub to my genelec 1029s just cause i figured i aught to figure out what is going on round 68hz and below. so far it works ok. the bass is still tricky to work out, yea, its not ideal. but i really dont have the room for bigger speakers etc. ok... anyway.

my problem is that my sub (a paradigm) has only a mono rca in. which means i have been using a Y cable. so i have all sorts of other problems with that... you know, signal is now connected between the two speakers... it aint pretty.

i want to get rid of the Y-cable. i was thinking passive mixer? like this
http://www.music123.com/Rolls-MX41-4-Channel-Passive--Mixer-i11836.music

what is the standard solution for this problem?

will that mixer be hi fi enough? or maybe it will cut the low lows, which is all i am interested in anyway...

ok. thanks in advance..

The monitors are powered? And you use the y-cable to patch the LF outs from the two 1029s to the single rca on your sub? is that right? It won't hurt to try that little mixer, and it might help. I don't know if there is a standard solution.

The only thing I wonder about is the input impedance of 47 ohms.

This one has 10k input impedance on it's inputs. That will put less load on your sub outs, giving (hopefully) better sound. It takes a 9-volt or wall wart. About $50. I'd probably get this one, if you don't want to get the genelec sub.

that paradigm is just something i picked up for very cheap that i thought would work well... might be time to move it to the living room and get the genelec sub soon...

wow, nice catch. what is up with that input impedance? is it a mixer designed for old reslo mics?

ok. thanks for the help. maybe i could try both and see if the passive one works. i prefer the idea of NOT plugging yet another thing in. also, i like the idea of the passive mixer working backwards as well as forwards.. neat.

maybe i should build something?

that'll probably work. OK, i'm a gonna go searching. i am sure there are some schematics for a passive 2-1 mixer...

anyone, if they can help.. that would be nice.

ok. that little simple stupid mixer was worse than the y cable.

studip project. luckily it cost less than $6 to make.

Try the Radio Design Lab one -- I've used their passive attentuators before and they're very transparent.
