Better Mic For britt's Vox

Look into these mics:

MXL V77 - Tube condenser mic with a big sound, but still seems fairly natural and smooth. Buy used on eBay as they are discontinued. ~$2-300 used

Beyer M500 - Creamy smooth ribbon mic. I love what this mic does to the high-end. ~$250-300 used

Sure Beta 58 - This dynamic mic has some sparkle, but is not overly bright. It could fit the bill. ~$90-100 used

I'm sure it's been covered elsewhere, but how does the sound of a Beta 58A differ from a 58 (pattern response aside)?

The Beta is brighter, less emphasis on mids. It also seems to have more output, and high gain before feedback characteristics that can help if you're on a stage.

I assumed the gain before feedback thing because of the pattern.

So would you say the Beta is brighter than a 58, but still not anywhere as bright as your average cheap condenser?

I haven't heard a lot of average cheap condensers, but the beta is still a dynamic mic. It doesn't give you the air or silkiness that a condenser might, nor does it have that "Chineese sizzle", if that's what you're after. It's hard to compare it to a condenser.

So would I go wrong getting the new style SP C1?

I'll have a tube pre down the road sometime.
