I hate the dang things but I kind of need to start using one. I use an AKG WR2000 for the guitar and I'm happy with it, but I don't like their mics all that much. Also, range is important.

Ran into the guy that's been playing at the Disneyland Hotel the last 22 years and he mentioned a brand I'd never heard of before and swears by it and now I can't remember what is was

I know this is an ol post, but....

I've got 2 of those systems WR2000 (WMS80) and I just got the AKG C444/L headset mic today. I tried it quickly, and it seems OK. Feedback seems pretty quick, about the same as the $130 shure headset, as well as a general OK sound, very mid-rangy. Doesn't come close to my SM58 or Beta 58. I'm wondering if the AKG C420/L headset would have been much better. I do sing lead in many tunes, and still am not sure I'll actually use it, but it would be cool for a song or two to cruise through the audience.

Did you ever try anything else out?

For the mic itself, there is no rival to Countryman, but you pay for it. About $500 for the mic, and you add whatever unit you are using. I am really happy with the Audio Technica 1400 series.
