I have two MXL V67g's and am trying to find the best sound I can get from them for my kit.

So far I've gotten some pretty decent sounds but I know there is room for improvement.

Any tips?
thanks

are those double-cardioid mics? if so, then make them only use one..

now, for the metal band im in, we wanted to pick up the kick very well, but still get the natural sound of the kit, so we didnt direct-mic all of the drums..

now, for our setup, i used

1 AKG condenser for the kick (placed just inside of the opening on the drum head, aimed STRAIGHT FORWARD (not tilted.. aim the condenser directly at the sound, otherwise the sound wont give you the punch you are looking for from the kick)

and 1 somebrandname condenser (single-cardioid) on a boom stand, 2 ft above drummers right shoulder, aiming the condenser directly at the snare.. This turned out fairly well.. i would show you, but my ram is dead in my studio computer at the moment..

give that a shot..
