I have written a few songs. Most of them are either just in writing or just with a sound sample with my voice.

How do I make them into songs? I cannot plan an instrument and am hoping someone can shed a light on the best way to either learn, or find someone to help out.

Take the first step.......

Post your lyrics here

Take the second step....

ask for a collaboration partner...

let them know if you are able to record your singing to their music.....good singers are few and far inbetween...

Welcome to the boards and good luck,
Joe

If you have little musical experience in writing, the only way to learn is to do it. I know it sounds tough, but if you can't write instrumental parts on your own the only way is to collaborate, as Joro said. If you're not worried about copyright issues, definitely search here for a willing collaborator...it would help very much if you sing, or can record, or mix or master, because someone's not likely to help you out if they have to do EVERYTHING.

Good luck!

You might try performing a search, as this topic has been covered a few times.

Many songwriters find it easier to write the music first... then the lyrics and melody. Others write poetry that is set to music. And still others have a melody in mind while writing lyrics. There's no "right" or "wrong" way to write music... but there are better and easier ways.

Since the chorus IS the key part of most songs... that would be a good place to make sure you have the hook set. The verses should support the chorus, and a bridge from the verse to chorus is often a nice way to build a song.

I haven't written a song in so many years... you shouldn't even listen to me...

Except about the part about the search function.... :D

pen...

go for it :D

It's funny, but the last time I wrote anything (which were lyrics... and some pretty good ones, at that) was when I was running sound for a band.

They had a cool tune started, and the singer and I put our heads together and came up with some appropriate lyrics.

The guitarist (who gave birth to the main ideas of the song) had a hissy fit - "yeah, we're gonna give credit to the soundman for the lyrics... right!"

Hey, you don't want my help... all you gotta do is say so.

Hell, I have hardly picked up my guitar or bass in ten years.:(

If I make it to Jamfest, I'm going to wait until everyone is good and drunk... then I might play some blues. I'm pretty sure I can remember the bass line...

Lately, the real estate business has been a lot of work with little pay and a whole lotta bills. Hmm... maybe I could pen some blues...

:D

I have the whole music-writing problem too. I come up with ideas for melodys but have no fricking idea what the notes are. I've decided I'm gonna ask my boyfriend if he's willing to work on something together cause he has the knowledge I lack... he just doesn't know it yet :D

Then again, I could be entering BAD TERRITORY trying to work on something like this with someone so close...hmmm...

That would be limiting yourself....

and perhaps missing out on an opportunity to write with someone that you can click with...ya know?

Take it easy,
Joe

Solution?

Buy band in a Box...best investment you'll make if you can't play.
