cheers mark i thnk i will go fo your setup, but it wil be a while before i can get the cash :(

Will anyone tell me if they think that I should swap one of these mics for another one -

SM57
AKG D112
M-Luna Audio (2 of them)

Well, between you and me I'd get a Beyerdynamic M201 for snare and a Sennheiser MD609 for guitar. But that'd cost more.

I have worked out that the setup with 2 audio lunas, a D112, and a SM57 would cost

386.93 pounds, which isnt bad!

Now i just have to scrape up the cash...

when i have raised a bit more, i might get the beyerdynamicM201 and Sennheiser as well...

I am still more than open to suggestions, though. Thanks for all the help :D

See, I'd do it differently to that:

Red5 Audio RVD1 kick mic: £60 http://www.red5audio.com/acatalog/Dynamic_Microphones.html
Studio Projects C4 pair: £223
http://www.dv247.com/invt/17576/
Sennheiser E835 for snare: £49
http://www.dv247.com/invt/5811/

Which comes to £332. But you could get even cheaper overheads, such as a pair of SP B1s (£122) or any of the various SE/ADK/Joemeek pairs that can be had for under a hundred quid.

Just my feelings based on experience ...

Those'd be good for overheads and acoustic instruments.

Now find him a vocal mic ;)

I've done a lot of good vocals on an E835. Better than the 57 for most applications because it has the high end that I need to hear a vocal come through naturally without EQ.

So that's:

An M201 for snare
An E609 for guitar amp
A D112 for kick and bass amp
A pair of C4s from Thomann for overheads
And an E835 for vocals

Sorted :D

No no ... I thought he was going for cheap and versatile?

E835 = snare, amps and vocals
Red5 RVD1 = kick and if you desperately need to mic a bass
C4s = OH and any acoustic guitars or other instruments that turn up

There's no need to buy a separate E609 or M201 if he's only recording four tracks at once.

Oh right, I forgot you mentioned the Red5 mic

How about that AND the E602? ;)

whoa whoa whoa wait a sec...

What's this I hear about a pair of overheads for UNDER 100 QUID??? Are these actually decent mics? In an ideal world, I would get the M-Audio Luna's, but they are a little pricey. So can someone tell me a pair of under 100 overheads that are actually good mics?

Here is the list - the most expensive one will probably be the bass/kick mic:

AKG D112 (Kick drum and bass)
E835 (Vocals, snare, guitar, keyboards)
*undecided overheads* (Drums and other instruments that you think would go well)

Anyone got any suggestions/changes?

No idea.

OI NIK. WILL THEY GIVE HIM DECENT SOUND QUALITY?

Do you mind? Grandma's watching her stories.

Course I wasn't talking about Behringer mics.

Joemeek JM27 - £39 each
http://www.dv247.com/invt/20529/
ADK SC-1 - £39 each
http://www.turnkey.uk.com/web/produ...t&SKU=ADK-SC1&context=WEB&make=ADK&model=SC-1

As you can see, these are both the same (OEM) mic. They're absolutely fine for OH applications, a touch noisier than more expensive ones so if you are doing a lot of acoustic guitar finger picking they might be a false economy. But they sound good and will do you absolutely fine. For drum overheads, and at this price, it won't matter at all that you're not buying a matched pair.

So there you have it, a decent sounding pair of OH for £80.

hey thanx mate :D

So heres the list:

Joemeek JM27 (drum OH)
ADK SC-1 (drum OH)
AKG D112 (kick and bass)
and:

EITHER

SM57

OR

E835

For keyboard, guitar amp, vocals.

BUT...

WHICH ONE OF THOSE 2 SHOULD I GET? I am thinking more of the E835 (much cheaper) but if anyone thinks that the SM57 has huge advantages over it that outweigh the 20 quid extra cost, I will happily listen.

And I realize that I need a preamp, but if I can get a soundboard for cheaper, should I? Will it serve the same purpose?

And, I know I keep saying this, but you guys are really helpful. Thanks again :)
