Best sounding album you have ever heard?

Brendan O'Brien's stuff with Pearl Jam always sounds good to me.

Also Adam Kasper with Foo Fighter's 99 release. TNLTL.

i was hoping there was going to be an album that was mentioned more than once. I noticed that most of these albums were "pre-over compressed era" lol

what happened to dynamics?

Tool - 10,000 Days
Opeth - Ghost Reveries
Radiohead - OK Computer

And for somehow I can't get it out of my head that Arch Enemy's "Doomsday Machine" sounds fucking awesome. I mean, they aren't one of those bands I really listen to all that often, and there are albums with better tunes, but to me the production for some reason sounds really smooth.

i like way too many different kinds of music to pick one
i really like most of steve albini's work though

Yeah that guy gets an absolutely killer drum sound on pretty much everything I've heard him do.

Agreed with above- all albini stuff is pretty great

Talking Heads - Speaking in Toungues is a great sound album, recorded to 16 bit digital i believe.

Abbey road and revolver are great sounding to my ears.

you like that one? theyre whole thing with that album was to be natural. theyd bump into the mics, and not care. they wanted it to be like how a live setting would be,

Predictable, but... Nirvana - Nevermind - Poptastic melodies with wall of sound crunching guitar tones, and the bass and drums are SOOO punchy it's unreal! In a good way of course.

Other than that, RX Bandits - Progress, The Resignation, and ...And The Battle Begun are all wicked, everything gels beautifully and has it own little place.

There's a couple of bands from Southampton called Thinkpol and Howards Alias who I'm really into as well, they do a lot of low-budget and home recording, and they always get a fantastic result.

Ok, there's a few, but I won't go on ;)

William Hung "She Bangs" :) The tonality of his voice is just awsome. Wait is tonality a word?

Being serious, there are too many for me too list. I was listening to the first Starz album through headphones and was amazed at the depth of the recording. Also one that Ivr enjoy listening to rescently is the Toadies the album with possum kingdom on it.

i think the wilco album yankee hotel foxtrot sounds amazing, i love the clarity with all the different instrumentations that they use throughout the cd

Wow! I don't know if I can say 'most awesome sounding of all time' but they both sound GREAT!

GREAT choices!

Black Sabbat- Black Sabbath

Amazing, isn't it? It was done basically 'live' and only on 8 tracks!

It does have an amazing sound. Pretty overlooked in that genre, I'd say...

Sgt. Pepper still does it for me. I listened to my old vinyl copy the other day and was blown away. (Yet again.) Gin Blossoms Best Of cranks me up too.

I love the sound of most anything that Steve Albini has done. His work with Danielson and Ballydowse both did wonders for those bands.

I also loved Nirvana's In Utero

Tool's Aenema
Smashing Pumpkins- Siamese Dream

Dark Side of the Moon always makes me drool as well...

there's my two cents

Yeppers! For reference and pure ear candy.
I would also throw in "Being There".
New on the sonic radar is Electric Version by The New Pornographers
Nirvana/Nevermind
XTC/Black Sea (Oldie)
Clash/London Calling
John Doe/Forever Hasn't Happened
Stranglers/No More Heroes

Finn - The Finn Brothers.

Tchad Blake is the greatest living engineer/producer. Hands down.
