I want to capture all the songs on my LP collection in the computer and then burn them to CD's. Please recommend software, e.g., Cakewalk, etc. I have a turntable, turntable pre-amp and an HP Media Center PC with 820 processor, 1.0GB memory, 250GB hard drive, whatever sound card the PC came with and a CD/DVD burner. Thanks for helping this newbie.

You don't need fancy recording software such as cake walk to transfer your LP's.

Get something free like audacity or goldwave, and get a rca to 1/8" cable. Then plug the rca's into the back of your pre amp and the 1/8" cable into the line in on your sound card. Hit record on the software and play the album and you should be set.

To obtain a higher quailty recording maybe look into getting a soundcard made for recording such as the inexpensive M Audio Audiophile 2496, but I would reccomend trying it with your existing sound card first and then desciding.

Also make sure you are plugging into the line in of your comp, and not the mic in.

LP to CD

Thanks for the input. It sounds like that approach will work great and save me a bunch of money.

Make sure that what ever you use has decent input meters
