Best Software for 16 track from ADAT

I have 2 ADATS and need to download songs through a MOTU 2408 II. My PC is a P4 1.6hz running Windows XP Pro. I have a dedicated 80 gb HD for Audio. I am having trouble with Sonar 2.0XL and wonder if maybe a lessor program might suit my needs and be easier to run. I need this setup solely for downloading from ADAT so I can do an automated mix. Any Ideas?

With the specs you have given on your PC, you shouldn't be having any problems performance wise. Perhaps you have something going on with your software or hardware. You may need to explain what the problem is.
 
Ditto on what Stealtech (is that a 4040?) said. Sonar as a program is well up to the task. I use Cakewalk9 for this job and transfer 24 tracks thru a 2408 all the time into a 700MHz PIII coppermine without a burp.
 
24 tracks on Cakewalk?

I thought Cakewalk would only handle 2 tracks at a time? I have Cakewalk 2002 but don't know how to sync the tracks if I try to do 16.
The trouble I have with Sonar is static/or perhaps constant pops. I have changed every setting I can think of and tried to follow the troubleshooting guide. I have deleted everything off my system except SONAR--by the way--here is my system:

ddr pc2700 256MB RAM
Geforce 4 mx440 dual out w/64mb
IBM Deskstar UDMA ATA 100 7200 rpm harddrives (40gb, 100gb)
Promise ATA 66 IDE controller card
300 watt p/s
and of course the PCI card that came with the MOTU 2408 II

The problem seems to change randomly. At one time I had a clear signal but with a pop every 3 seconds--exactly--the exact same pop sound I get if I change the clock setting with the speaker on--say from internal to ADAT or visa versa.
Another confusing issue is the wave view. The waves are so tiny (short) that it almost looks like a straight line rather than a typical wav pattern. It's as if there is no volume showing. I don't know if this is related but I wanted to give as much info as possible.
I really appreciate your help on this. I have a CD to master next week and this is my first attempt at automation. In the past I have done it the old fashioned way but I am running out of fingers and toes. :)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, dyson.

I am not sure what the problem is either. Your computer is more than capable of importing 16 tracks without any glitches.

It also seems as if it is not receiving the audio levels properly.

Did you check to see which unit is the MASTER? You will probably need to make Sonar the MASTER (there is probably a conflict with the MOTU and Sonar in terms of who wants to be the MASTER device).

Also, how are the INPUT levels on your individual tracks coming from the ADAT's into Sonar? How do they look in the INPUT LED's of Sonar?

Sounds to me like you may have one of two problems. Either the clock settings are wrong or you have a driver issue. When transfering through the MOTU to the computer, the MOTU software should be set to ADAT optical sync, not ADAT sync when recording FROM THE ADAT to the computer. You'd get exactly the symptom you discribe with the random transients in the waveform. If the settings are correct when you're transfering and still get the pops, Try going to the MOTU web site and looking fofr drivers. Like I said, I've been using a 2408 to move 24, 24 bit/44.1 or 48KHz signals in and out of the MOTU for over two years with NO problems.
