Best recording amp under 200 dollars?

Tone's subjective, my friend.

First off, he stated that his budget is $200.00. The Tech 21 Trademark 10's are $249.00, although I suppose you could get it for slightly less. Or, he could look into a used one.

Secondly, I never slagged Tech 21 stuff. I said I liked it. Whether either of them "wipe the floor" with the other is, again, subjective. I've played through a Trademark 60, and I liked it...a lot. But, they're about $500.00, and there are other things I'd like to have with that amount of money. The Trademark 10's are $249.00, and it's tough for me to justify paying that much for a 1 x 8" combo. I spent $290.00 on a used Vox AD60VT with the VC-4 foot controller, and that's a hell of a lot of amp for the money.

So, is it worth the $100.00 difference for him to get a Trademark 10 over a AD15VT? That's for him and his ears (and his wallet) to decide.

Again, the Tech 21 stuff sounds really good and is really well made, no doubt. But I do think the Vox's offer a lot for the money.

I don't have clips of my Vox AD60VT yet, but I did track a quick song idea with my Vox VR30, which has the Valve Reactor power section that the ADXXVT's have.

The clip is on this page, and it's the one called "Untitled 2/25/06". Granted, the VR30 amp isn't a modeling amp, and there aren't any solos in that song idea (at least not yet), but it's the only track I've done with either of the Vox amps I have. Just an SM-57 in front of the amp.

Hey i wasent sugesting that the vox is rubbish! no way, there kick ass amps, infact im jsut about to buy the new ac15, but its all about personal prefrance, i mean to my ears its sounds lovely, to your it might sound like dog crap

Those Vox VR30 combos are really good, and around $200. They don't have all the models the others have, but what they do is real good (especially the spanky clean sound!), and they're loud enough to jam with a drummer, unlike the 15 watt version.

If you are looking for an amp just to record guitar in the $200 range...have you outruled any thing like the line 6 pod? I know that for home/project studio recording, its fast, easy, and you can always get a decent sound. It will give you some more options if you want to play some with your sound more than just having 1 amp. You cant beat the real sound of a miced cab done right...but if you dont have quite the mic arsenal, or want to save set up time...this is what I would recommend.

Yeah, I really dig mine. It kinda has its own thing going. It's actually the amp that really got me interested in the Valvetronix technology. I remember when they came out with it in 2001, but I had never really sat down and played one. But while I was trying out Telecasters in January of this year, I plugged into one of the VR30's just for the hell of it...and damned if the thing didn't sound great. Not only did I get the Tele, I got a VR30 as well.

I'm jumping in a little late but if you're still looking for that amp I'm going to second the Peavey Bravo suggestion (although it may be a little over your budget - several have gone for about $275 on ebay including shipping). I've just gone through the "search for a decent amp for home recording that sounds good at apartment-level volume" and went with the Bravo. (and strangely enough I'm also trying to find something similar to the early 70's Gilmour sound). The reverb and effects loop on the Bravo are nice too.

Watch it Frog- you and I are on the same plate- but I got slammed The issue was 'for the money' IMO- not necessarily the very best. ART's are great for the purpose- a little noisy. I've never even looked at the Tech- I'm an old-timer. But even if I were 80 I still wouldn't hang in with a Behry- even if I was "'80's"

I vote for the Pignose GV40. 12ax7's and P/P 6L6's. 40 Watts Kinda mid-rangy but will kickass thru a 4X12 bottom. Used for about $175

don't laugh....Orange Crush 30W...I use the crap out of this amp...doesn't sound amazing by itself, but you plug a nice distortion pedal into it (EH Soviet-made Fuzz), drive the hell out of the amp, and you've got yourself one mean sounding little amp. for $180 and my 2 cents...
