Hi, I am about to purchase a Rode K2 condencer mic and I had a question. Which would be a better preamp, a Line 6 tone port, or M audio DMP-3? Also, I just bought a new comp for recording a couple of months ago. It's a Dell with the stock soundcard. Would it be better for me to connect through USB like the Toneport, or just get a new soundcard made for recording? Thanks!
I don't know much about the Toneport... considering the amount of features for the money, I'm not really sure what the quality of the preamps is. I'd search around the site and find info on buying an interface though - I don't think a soundcard (at least a consumer one, even if billed as "for recording") is going to do justice even with the K2 and an M-Audio DMP-3. Now, I have that exact combination, and it sounds great, but I run it to ADAT tape decks and mix on an analog desk, so its going to sound different than running the output to the line-in on a computer's soundcard. Like I said, search around for some "best interface for X dollars" threads and go from there
