Does it really matter which comp I use for NY Compression since I'm just squashing the track anyway? On the way in I'm using an LA-610 with the optical comp on soft.

If the comp does matter, what plug-in would you recommend?

Thanks,

I only use two compressors:

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check those out.

you ask a lot of "best" questions that always get the same answers...everything because we all think different stuff is best for different things.

one I like to squash drums is Stillwell rocket. It's kinda like an 1176 where you can really squash things and they still sound good. This is my favorite for parallel compression of drums, snare compression, and rock vocals.

Thanx Aaron. I was going to download it, but i want to ask you what the limitations are on the "evaluation" version.

no limitations...it'll work 100% forever...all it does is put up a 5 second screen saying "do the right thing and register if you like this" (paraphrase).

I really love the rocket on drums and vocals (I own a real 1176 and the rocket behaves a lot like it), major tom on vocals, and the bombadier is killer on everything and especially as a buss comp (it has so many settings it's kinda like 10 different compressors in 1).

While you're at it check out the 1973 EQ super transparent, but great for boosting HF and HPF stuff (like for a lot of drum OH or acoustic guitars), and VibeEQ adds lots of character (I like it for master buss smoothing, some vocals, and drum buss).

I can't say enough good about stillwell comps and eqs.

Awesome.Thanx man.

Right now, I use the Density that Greg posted, on my drums. I'll give this thing a try.

Man I was all pumped to try density but it's only pc.

Hopefully this summer I can out together a killer pc desktop just for recording. There are too many great free plugs that are pc only.

I'm looking for a popular consensus. You're right, I do ask these questions quite often and I've gained a fair amount of valuable suggestions. Let's be honest, I'm recording demos, I want something quick and successful. If 8 out of 10 people agree on something...I'm gonna try it.

Also wanted too mention...I can't stand recording or mixing. It's a frustrating and very time consuming process. It would be fantastic if I had the money to pay someone to do it for me. I'm a songwriter and want to get my songs out there but don't have the money to head to my local studio every time I want to put something down. Therefore, I find it easiest and a great time saver to go with the great suggestions I get here. I certainly appreciate the help! For instance, I'll be downloading that Density MKII ASAP.
