I´m looking into buying an affordable strat (mex standard) but want to pump it up with pickups better than the stock fenders. I play psychadelic rock in the vein of Pink Floyd, etc.

Can I get some recommendations (and links if you have them) to strat pickups recommended for a mex strat playing this sort of music?

thanks!

Why don't you look up what kind of p-ups floyd used. Also check out what hendrix used. Just do a google search, maybe there is some whacko out there that knows exactly what the setups of those guitars were.

Unless you buy a guitar from the era of Hendrix or Floyd you wont be getting thier pickups. I moved to Lace Sensors years ago [ala Clapton and Billy Corgan at the time] in my strat and never looked back.

They have a lot of different tone to choose from and my strat has consistantly been as hot a signal and less noisey on stage than my rythm guitarists LP w/humbuckers.

If your just dying for that open hollowish sound that only pickup poles (and the problems that come with them) can give you, they've also got some good coil pickups. It would take something pretty damn impressive to get me to go back to pole peice pickups.

Bare Knuckle pick-ups from England. They come pre-wired on a scratch-plate, excellent sound, you'll find something to suit your needs.

David Gilmour uses EMGs most of the time.

Myself, I'd go for a set of Joe Bardens, now that he is making pickups again.

I liked the Lace Sensors in my USA Ultra Strat. They pretty much sounded exactly like David Gilmour's guitar. But he does use those EMG's, but I have never heard them in person so I'm not sure how big of a difference there is between the Lace's and the EMG's.

HUGE.

The Lace Sensors, while just as quite, are nowhere near as flat and clean as EMG's, and they don't have the level of output.

Kinman pickups will get you quite a 'Floydy' tone.

I'm enjoying the SCN pups that came with my AD Strat.
They have a bit less bite - but more oomph.

i really like the bill lawrence L-280 series...

i've dropped them in as replacements in 2 of my guitars now, and see no end in sight.

very reasonably priced, but with a waiting period.
