What do you think are the best orchestral samples on the market, in a reasonable price range?

Examples:
Garritan Personal Orchestra
Motu Symphonic
Miroslav Orchestra
East/West Symphonic Orchestra

best strings?

It depends on the context. Try using different strings for different effects. If you want a spooky sound, try using old analog strings with vibrato for the werewolf/count dracula scene. The string sound often determines the mood. Thats what I think, anyway! :) :)
