G'day, I'm a young musician who takes his music very seriously.
I want to record music and I want to use Pro Tools as that's what
I understand many pro's use and they have combo packs, but for now just want to have a nice 8 track interface to learn on and get used to it all.
I searched the digidesign.com site but it's layout is shit..
So my budget is anywhere between $500 and $1000 for the interface, and I will buy the mics ect. as I go. -=start advising=-

if you want an 8 channel protools capable interface, in a lower price range,,,you may want to look into protools m-powered <for m audio hardware>

As far as i know digidesign jump from the mbox with 1<maybe 2> mic ins, to the digi 002/003 which has four, and expansion for 14more, at a cost.

it's not a cheap piece of software to begin using.

perhaps a better way to go would be something like a presonus firepod/fp10 <8 mic inputs> which comes bundled with cubase?

Don't shit on me people!!!! i'm a protools user!!!!!!

003 rack factory has 4 preamps.

it has 8 total analogue inputs but only four have preamps.

<edit,my mistake.....003 rack has four,,,,,,,003 rack+ has 8>

I'm getting hot -n- bothered about the 2626 from M-Audio. I just sold a Mix+ system with 32 Adat I/O and 8 analog to get 2 of 'em which gives me 16 analog I/O @ 96KHz/24-bit. I have been recording for 35 years and have owned Neve, Studer, ect... over the years. Presently I am refurbing an 18 input Spectrasonics console to use with these where I was using a Panasonic DA7 digital mixer (It's for sale, anybody looking for one? $1.2K with 3 Adat cards, meterbridge and a flight case). The 2626 looks like the best "Semi-Pro" interface going and has a big plus in that it works with Protools M-Powered. A lot of folks are comparing the quality as being equal or better than RME. We'll see later in the week when mine gets here.
