Best Mobo for XP 1700??? Asus? Soyo?

i couldn't find the A7S333 on new egg.

there is a A7V333, but it uses VIA, which apparently isn't that great.

hows the Asus A7N266-VM AA??? it's got a bunch of onboard stuff, like video and sound, which is bad. but it got a bunch of good reviews. it's got the n-force chipset which is apparently good. any compatibility issues with an audiophile?

my friend told me to get the soyo dragon whatever that costs 160 bucks. i thinks thats too much for me.

i'm still considering the cheap ECS board, but i think i'll spend 20 more bucks and get something better.

what do you guys think?
 
oh yeah and is the XP 1700 a good enough chip? higher? lower? intel?

oh one more thing, hyuk.

hard drive.

the seagate barracuda IV 40gb has awesome reviews. any objections? if not, i think that'll be the one. is the maxtor 40gb better by any means?

check out *any* review, faq, info,... you can find on the m-audio and search for any incompatibilities with any chipset. Avoid the chipsets they mention.
PC setups are too different to make general rules about any piece of equipment being good or not.

FYI: i have an Asus A7M266 (amd761 chipset) and a Soltek DRV-4 (266FSB and VIA KT266A chipset). Never had any troubles with neither board.

can't comment on the harddisk, imho any disk will be good these days.

I own a Soyo dragon ultra P4,and I have not been too thrilled with it. the board has "issues" (onboard stuff) that pop up from time to time.I doubt I will ever purchase another one. I do have the SiS chipset.The AMD Soyo boards came with the Via chipset.

The Asus is a great board The Epox is also very good.
But...the Via chipset is not recomended for audio recording .
Try to get An ASUS or EPOX with the VIA/AMD hybrid
 
I'm using a Gigabytle mobo (don't remember the model off hand) equipped with Athlon 1900 chip and VIA KT333 chipset. No recording problems. The only VIA chipset I'm aware of that suffered from "audio recording problems" was the KT133. I also have one of those chipsets (in a MSI mobo) in a game machine (no recording done on it), and it works fine for what it does.
 
This is just the start, Goto the manufacture of your hardware, software and look up hardware compatibility, the via chipset is typically always reference as not suggested.
If you don't have problems God bless, I have a kt333 chipset and push my PC hard. If I could do it again I would get the hybrid which is suggested it's not costing you more and why take chances. It's not the mobo it's the chipset.
