Best mixing console, etc....for a newb

OK, so I am as green as they come to the recording world. I am looking for the best, most affordable (<1500) mixing console to start home recording. As far as mics go, I am a drummer and I have heard that the AGK d112 is good for kick, shure sm57 for snare, RE20 for vocals... any suggestions for ambient mics? also, are dynamic or condenser mics better for each situation? Any help would be greatly appreciated...Thanks

A solid mixer for the money is always a Mackie. If you can spring for it, their VLZ (I think that's right) series is nice. You'll might want something with 2 to 4 busses so you can mix down your 4 toms into a stereo pair (just an example). You'll have to base how many channels you need on what you plan to mic. Gonna mic every drum, plus overheads, plus a room mic? You might need a minimum of 8 XLR (mic) inputs etc. As far as mics go, there are so many...here's the "can't go wrong" list.

Kick: AKG D112
Snare: Shure 57
Toms: Senheisser E604's
Overheads: MXL 603's
Room mic: A solid condenser mic like a Studio Projects B1

Just my 2 cents, these can be debated and fussed over till the end of time. I doubt too many people would disagree, however, that this would be a good mic set up for the money. Later.
