This will be a major upgrade compared to what you have but if this is too much $, then just stick with what you got because anything cheaper then this will not be worth the cash...

No the Fast Track USB sucks really bad. Friend had one, and he out grew it in 2 days, and became miserable.

I rather go with the 990 w/ audio buddy than the Fast track.
.
here's a good deal I saw.. http://www.musiciansfriend.com/prod...-DP-AT2041-Dual-Mic-Preamp-Package?sku=184135
I heard mixed feelings about the Blue Tube

I agree it sucks, but when your budget sucks theres not much you can do.

I would second your suggestion but he's gonna need to spend another $100 on something like a Echo Mia or Audiophile to get his sound into his workstation...

What kind of budget are you looking at?

Yeah, I would also suggest either of those. More of the audiophile so that if in the future he wants to run Pro Tools, he will be able to.

Yeah, the SM58 is pretty much just a kick ass all round mic. My brother uses it for recording rappers, and the results are pretty good.

Still need a preamp or mixer to run th e audiophile 24/96.

oh yeah mybad, juss buy like a 40 dollar mixer wit phantom power or somthin...

I'd rather go for TSM mics than shures.. dunno kno if they sell them in US  my TSM 87S cost like 88€, nice consender for such price. it was my 1st mike ;)

The only Mic you need is a SM-58

Great mic, durable, and cheap.

70-90 american dollars.

doesn't need phantom power because its a dynamic microphone.

You will however need a mixer.

I can't recommend any USB mic.

For better of for worse - I went with the Audio Technica AT4040 --which is this one
---------i also got the behringerequalizer
and a mixer - gotta go back n look at that.

-------take time to build your equipment!! - if all u r doing right now is recordign for practice - of course u can use what ever u have - just know that its not really for "outter-click" presenation - just somethin for u n ya boyz to check self, develop your flow n presence in teh studio.

---i hit up the record stores in my area - ALL THE TIME - just chattin wit the workers about the dif. equipment - kind of under "false" pretense, cuz i try to carry it like "im buyin something TODAY" - but im not! but the more info i get from a worker - that is, the more helpful the person is, the more i am inclined to FIND THEM when i do want to buy. hell one store know me by name - lol. i got some free TRITON lessons that way! - just dont go overboard - and always do it within some kind of time frame where the floor rep. know that u r comin back. IMPULSE SHOPPING is not the move in this line of work

I got the same as Gully, an AT4040, not too expensive, and good.
