Best Mic to Preamp matches

I've heard that Audio Technica mics take really well to tube preamps.

...as do Neumanns, AKGs, Soundeluxes, Earthworks, Lawsons, BLUEs, Shures, Sonys, Manleys... need I go on?

Well I've heard it's good to put a clean mic into a colored pre and vice versa, but it hasn't worked out that way for me. NTK into Joemeek twinQ rocks on blues/rock. B.L.U.E. Kiwi into Avalon AD2022 compressed with RNC- the clean channel. And the unexpected surprise- Shure SM82 line level broadcast mic into the twinQ is the best acoustic guitar sound I've produced, and I've tried a *lot* of mics.-Richie
