I am looking for something mainly for recording vocals. I am looking for something that doesnt sound to thin and high. Would like something that maybe accentuates more of the lows and some of the mids if that makes any sense.

I may use it to mic an acoustic guitar as well but MAINLY for vocals.

Feel free to recommend something that I can find on ebay for cheaper than MSRP.

Thanks a lot.

You arent gonna get much for $150, but there are some ok mics in that range. Audio Technica AT2020, Studio Projects B1. I usually don't like mxl mics but I got the MXL v67 just for the hell of it since it was $100 and it is also decent for vocals. If you want a real boost in quality you might wanna save a couple hundred more.

ok, and if I was to save up for a while and invest in a better mic, what would be my best bet for under $300? thanks.

Audio Technica 4033 or 4040
CAD M179
ADK Hamburg
Shure SM7

You cant go wrong trying the Apex 210 ribbon for $115 from fullcompass.com.....fits your description.

Rode NT1a - $200.00 new... Sweet mic for the money. Does good on vocals and acoustic guitar. Low noise and it seems to reproduce the lows and mids better (or accentuate them more). My $00.02 ;)

If you go for a ribbon and that doesn't float your boat, then for under $300 try a MXL V69ME for $250~ at fullcompass (call to get their best price).

Hey, I just got one of those last weekend. Haven't had a chance to use it yet though... :o (Got mine at GC for $200) :p

Look around for a used AT4040 and get the best deal you can. You should be able to find one under $200. It's a lot better than the under $100 or under $150 usual suspects.

Look in the Classified sections of this forum for great deals on used recording gears; many times, the prices are lower than what I could find on eBay.

For under $300: I like the MXL V67g most of all, then Rode NT1000, and then ADK Hamburg. I didn't like the Studio Projects B1, B3, and C1 at all.

For such requirement on vocals Oktava MK 319 could be suitable. It has the basses and midsts but not so much of heights. Its sound seems to be boring but fits nicely in the mix and the overall sound is pleasant. These russian mikes have absolutely opposite sound than chinese mikes with hyped heights.
On the other hand I know a better mikes for acoustic instruments. Maybe you should forget to have one universal mike for everything and buy also one special for instruments such as Oktava MK 012 or SE Electronics 3.

As for the another vocal mike I would also vote for ADK Hamburg that seems to be best large condenser for such money.

Studio Projects B1 is IMO more suitable for instruments but not suitable for vocals. For some vocals it has a thin sound. C1 is better on vocals but ADK Hamburg seems to be much more better.

Shure SM7 is great one but quite expensive (Espcially in Europe)

Sennheiser 421 used should fit in your price range and should have a solid place in your mic locker for the rest of time. It is a classic.

I love the SM7 but it is out of your price range.

One of my first do it all mics which I still have and use is the Studio Projects C3. Might be able to find one used in that price range.

At-3035 is $200 new and I love mine for the price.\
