I read you can't use the outs 3-8 simultaneous on the Presonus when you are hooked up to you computer, but rather only in standalone.

I wouldn't expect that to be true---that would be a rather odd way to design a piece of equipment....

What about this?

I'm also in the market for an 8 channel firewire interface.

The guy from Sweetwater made it sound like the Focusrite Saffire Pro 40 was a no-brainer.

Basically dismissed the MOTUs.

Anyone with Saffire Pro 40 experience, good or bad??

Dismissed MOTU, recommended Focusrite.... Translation: the Focusrite has higher margins.... :D

I very briefly owned a Saffire Pro 40 but I returned it as the firewire connection kept dropping. Tried it on with both a TI & Ricoh chipsets, the latter wouldn't connect at all.

Yeah I'm really doubting the salesman at this point. I haven't heard anyone say nice things about the Focusrite. Always issues with the Firewire.

If anyone love their Saffire Pro 40, please let me know- cuz all I've heard is bad things. :(

For what it's worth, I'm using a MOTU896 with an 8Pre linked through ADAT on a Windows 7/64 machine. No issues whatsoever.
