I have miced cabinets tons of times but my mic collection is not that large(quite small actually) so I'm looking to by a couple of mics for micing guitar amps. I'm looking for dynamic mics, simply because I think they are more reasonable in price and would like to know what you people think is the best.

I have seen these mics from Nady for like $10, can these produce a descent sound at all??? Does anyone know or have them? I'd be interested to hear everyones thoughts on this.

The price range I'd prefer is basically the best bang for the money. So let's say the best mic for the lowest price. Is there such a mic?

I guess I'll find out from everyones responses.

thanks to all who post replies,

i really like the

Electrovoice 635a, if you watch ebay you should be able to get one for $50.00 or less.
The shure sm-57 is tried and true, as well as inexpensive. The 57 will prob be the most versatile in the under 100 dollars range too. Thats something to think about.

I agree with the ones posted Plus

EV N/D 408. I have had excellent results using these. They are clear and can handle very high sound preasure levels.

NO DONT GET A CHEAP NADY! I bought a nady starpower and it sounds horrible. I dont know much about the other mics but from what i hear they are crap.

Sm57..the standard from the past, present, and future. It just cant be beat, because theres nothing about it that can be improved (IMO)

The 57 is a decent mic for sure but to say it can't be improved??? I can think of a lot of mics that could be a VAST improvement.

I agree with trackrat but the question was the best mic for the money.
The SM57 can be used on many things so for the money It probably is the best bet.

I can think of a lot of ways it could be improved on. :D

My nomination: Beyer M69

I just do not understand this standpoint... There are a lot of mics that can sound better than a 57 if you've got the $$$.

I don't understand how so many people come to agree with this myth....

best mic at the lowest price = a used Shure sm57.......

ill agree it is the best in its price range and ill agree its probably the most often used mic on a guitar cabinet, but cant agree on the "cant be improved" thinking.......

many of the mics mentioned in this thread can do better easily.....it is a testament to the sm57 that many engineers with access to a very costly mic cabinet reach for it so often.....

Hey DaveDrummer, don't let them get to you... they know as well as you and I... sometimes the Shure SM57 is the best mic for the job and can't be beat... and almost everyone knows the Shure SM57 is not always the best mic for every job.

sonicpaint, you can pickup used SM57's for cheap.

Oh, and I don't want what some would call an "Improved Shure SM57", I like the 57's just the way they are, thank you.

I'd say an SM-7 beats it senselessly and mercelessly. A senny 441 beats it, then whips it's head in to the ground and has it for dinner later on. I don't even want to get in to what a Blue Dragonfly, a Royer 121 or an EV Re-20 would do to it, because this is a public forum. :D

Thanks everyone.

When I posted my question I had a strong notion that the SM 57 was going to take hold as the most popular though I have to say that it's nice to hear about other mics other the the "tried, tested and true" Shure SM57.

I'm familiar with most of the mics that were mentioned though some I haven't heard of such as the Beyer M69, though after looking it up I have to say that's a bit out the price range that I was looking to spend thought I'm sure for what it costs it would do a great job.

Thanks again guys!

I got one for $60 off ebay, and sold a 57 for about $70.
