Ok, i have an sm 57, and 2 sm 94s

i want to get an AKG D112 for the bass drum
i have 5 toms. I would like to mike them all.
what mics should i get for the 5 toms? I want to spend no more than 500 for them all(including the bass drum)
what should i do?

Why do you want to mic all of your toms? I used to be the same way, but then I realized what a headache it was. If your room is good enough, a simple 4 mic setup is all you need. It sounds much more natural, and like the one instrument that it is. When you break it down by each drum and cymbal, things just start to get confusing, and they waste your precious mixing time.

I'm down to 3 mics, and love the sounds...

Cole 4038 OH, Beyer M201 on the snare, and an EV RE38 on the kick...mix to taste...

When tracking with a band, 2 Altec Coke bottles provide a nice stereo image of the whole band, including the drums...

Works for me...
