Hi i was just wanting to ask some advice on good drum mic packages. I am short on cash and from what i have seen on the good ol ebay buying packages are cheaper than buying them single :) I have a bass drum mic and a shure sm58 for the snare so all i really need is 2 overhead condensors and 3 mics for the toms (uni directional)
There are packages of 5 drum mics but these nearly allways dont have overheads and just have mics for the toms snare and bass drum.
I am not bothered if i get a 7 set of mics cause i can sell the mics i dont need seperatly.

Please if you have any reccomendations please leave a post :) :)

Cheers

What's your budget? You could pick up some of the GLS 57 clones (3-pack for about $80) and a pair of SDC over heads (super cheap = Behringer ECM8000 reference mics @ $50 each, or better = MXL 603/604 @ $80-100 each).

Yer the behringer over heads look very nice! But the 57 copies im not too sure. With the 57 copies i would also have to buy clips for and it would all become very expensive! :o
Here is the link to some mics i was looking at (that are around my budget) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/MICS-EAGLE-MI...393208615QQcategoryZ15198QQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
I am not too sure with these microphones but i have the kick and its quite nice sounding. I was thinking i could just keep the tom mics (3 of the tom mics) and then put the bass drum mic and the 2 condensors and the other tom mic back on ebay and with that money get 2 of the behringer condensors?
Can you just tell me what you think of those drum mics i gave a link for please? Thanks alot :)

The 3-pack comes with mic clips.

I don't think much of drum mic packs. They're probably ok for live use, but I wouldn't recommend them for recording. Sure it's more expensive to buy separate mics, but you get better quality mics that you can use for more than just drums. I wouldn't use clip-mounts for any recording purpose, as they pick up too much shell vibration. Mic stands are way better.

You didnt mention if you are talking live or recording. So I will give my opinion for recording. Since you have a kick mic and a snare mic I would spend my money on one good overhead and build from there.
Alot can be done with a single overhead that sounds good as apposed to two shit mics.

Yer it is mostly going to be for recording and maybe gigged a few times.
I realise that clip ons pick up a fair amount of shell vibration but when your talking about the price of just one mic boom stand atm they are loads!! i was thinking getting that mic package scrapping/selling a few of the mics and getting two good behringer overheads. And then when i have got some more money keep building on the mics i.e getting better ones/getting more mic stands.

I think if you are going to use these as live mics also I would forget about using behringer 8000,s as overheads.
The last thing you will want on stage live is a omni for the drums.
