Okay, great I'll go ahead and start looking for one. Should I get an outboard compressor and preamp, or is it gonna make a ton of difference?

I'd wait on both the compressor and the preamp until you get the mic. Then, if you want either one, it'll probably be the preamp.

Agreed. See how the mic improves your sound first before chasing other gear. Changing your mic will make the most substantial change in your sound, compared to other gear.
