Best CD-RW out there???

Which CD writer is the best? Plextors? LGs? ...?

plextors, without a doubt.....you pick the model number. I have an old CDR (4X12) which chugs along nicely after all these copies (several thousand+) and years (since May 1998). The newer models always seem to be at the top of the list in PC World magazine.....not that that is gospel, but they have seemed to be pretty "right-on" with their other choices of computer equipment too.
 
Plextor seems to be a good choice... Which model is the best regarding accuracy and things like that? Are they OK to make Master CDs?

I have an old panasonic SCSI ($500) that never falied on me. I have an old Matshitu SCSI($400) that never failed on me. I have a new HP SCSI($150) that yet never failed on me. I have a new Sony USB($350) that once or twice failed me. I guess it had to do with the USB interface.

Bottomline from my view : most writers will function just fine.

I do hear nice stories about plextor though.
 
It's got to be a.............................Plextor!

I was asking this question some months ago on another forum, and I'm only giving you the overwhelming advice that I have received. So I bought a Plextor (scsi external, not cheap mind) which is just brilliant. Very good quality - when I make CD masters from my digital recorder & play them on the stereo I can't tell the difference between the CD & playing my stuff direct from the machine. Wow!
 
This is good news

I thought I had to pay $8-1200 for an HHB, but the Plextor seems better priced. Wonder why the HHB is so much more. It does not seem to be as fast.
 
I own the TDK VeloCD writer at 24x/10x/40x, and I'm very happy with it.

Plextor has a great reputation though, as you've obviously noticed. :) I believe they're priced about the same. TDK might have been a bit higher, but I think they've come down a bit.
 
Do not get a Memorex or Memtek. Poor devices. Not only have my own independent tests shown them to be unreliable, many other people have had problems with them.

There are like 3 or 4 companys in the world that make the actuall hardware for CD burners . The big companies buy from them and slap there logo on them ..... so go figure....btw I have a yamaha 24x16x 8 so far it has worked....
 
Has anyone tried the iomega. I gather they will burn at 24X and guarantee no drink coasters. :)

I've had three burners in the last few years:
Yamaha = good
Phillips = piece of crap
Plextor = outstanding
 
Plextor's great. I have a 12x/16x/32x (i THINK... i'm at work now, can't just look at it), and it's a superb burner. No bad burns yet, unless it was on crappy ol' Office Depot disks (and NONE of those turned out right... bad laminates).

Ohp, before I say "no bad burns," let me clarify that for some reason if I don't burn at 4x, the CD won't play on Danny's little jambox thingey. You know, one of those WalMart $30 ultra-compact dealies. 1x won't play, 2x won't play, but 4x does just great. I don't gamble with anything larger than 4x, so YMMV on those...

I also have not used many burners, so keep that in mind. I went with Plextor because ZDNet told me to (back when Jesse Berst was 'da man), and haven't regretted the decision at all.
 
Marantz CDR500!

I love my Marantz CDR500! Great quality A/D D/A converters, solid rackmount unit, idiot proof. That's all I have to say.
