best bass plugin?

sorry if this is the wrong forum but: what would people recommend as a very good bass plugin, be it VST or directX or whatever. either bass guitar-type, or synth-based bass. thanks for any help

Although I havn't used it, Steinberg's bass VSTi is supposed to be very good. It comes free with VST and SX. It's called the VB-1.
