All the bickering in the "best amp under $600" thread has me wondering.
I want to hear your "desert island" amp pick.

The Rules:

1: One amp, and only one amp. Yeah, I know one amp can never do it all. Tough. Pick one. (combo or head/cab)
2: No mods, and no mixing and matching cabs and heads. Your pick must be all stock.
3: No theoretical amps (i.e. the cruch of a Marshall w/ the clean of a Fender.)
4: Must be an amp you have acutally played, not some mystical/ mythical amp you have read about and never actually heard. (For example: I'll bet most younger guitarists (sub 30) have never heard a real vintage Plexi.)
5: Be nice.
6: Should Plexi's and Blackfaces be disqualified for the purpose of this discussion? I say yes, for reasons stated in #4.

Anyone caught breaking any of these rules will be subject to immediate dismissal, and be forced to spend the 2 years alone on a desert island with their pick and no power outlet.

My pick: Rivera Quiana

hi

As one of the guilty 'bickering ones' I will pass a vote for now.

Marshall JCM2000 TSL 122.

This may change in the future... There is a certain H. o.k., o.k., I won't break the rules. ;)

Huges and Kettner Duotone head and matching cabinet.

Not only because it sounds great, but because even when it's just standing there, the warm glow of the tubes, in the soft blue light, behind the glass face, is truly hypnotic.

a pignose

no seriously.....if i was on a deserted island (with a power supply) my pick would have to be one of the old 100 watt tube marshalls....cause on a deserted island you could actually crank it up all the way

but then....the people on the nearest continent (1000 miles away) would probably hear it and call the coast guard on my ass...and i would have to turn it down.

Yes hixie......a lava lamp will do wonders for a buzzz...........:)

two ampeg jets first issue model the earlyblue diamond type

jets running in strereo

if you look hard enough you will get the both under your 600 but only just

Under $600?

Early 70's Fender Super Reverb or Pro Reverb.

no, not under $600. any amp that you feel is the best amp that you've actually played through.

which for me would be a:

fender hotrod deville

since i've only played through 3 amps in my 15 years as a guitarist.

To be honest... I hate marshall, but the new avt 2000's sound amazing... The 40 or 50 watt combo version is about 450 and sounds just great... But if u want to spend 1000 more than 600 go for the mesa/boogie mark iv, which is the greatest amp ever

Mesa Boogie Mark IV head with a 2 x 12" Fender Cabinet loaded with Celestions.

Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone Great Tone.

I was gonna say a Fender Bassman head with a two 12 cabinet, but the rules say no...for a reason I can't agree with...(number 6...reverting to number 4....and yes...I've owned several of them over the years...)

so...never having played an amp like the spider...or one of these modeling amps...which would probably be my choice if i was going out to buy one tommorow....

I'd say...ampeg v4....too heavy to carry, too loud to use, tone like a mutha, and they're going cheap nowadays....not to mention you can't easily find tubes for them anymore. But, they'll kick booty over a 100 watt Marshall:)

I'm with darrin on the L5. Hell, an amp would be useless on a desert island unless you got something to play through it and a place to plug it in.

So it better be one hell of a good lookin' amp.
