Best addition for VST's?

Im looking to purchase some VST's for use in the Mixing and Mastering process.

I use Nuendo 2 on a MAC G4 1.25Ghz 1.75GB RAM OS10.4.8.

Would it be recommended to go with a UAD or Powercore since it relieves some of the processing of the CPU on VST's? If so, which would be a better buy?

I also have heard great things about Waves Platinum.

It seems pricey and looks like it would be back to using up your systems CPU again.

Any recommendations?

I use and recommend the Wave Arts products. I have used all the Waves plugins many times at studios that I work in and find the Wave Arts stuff to be easier to use, less consumptive and better sounding. They're cheaper too, which I didn't realize when I was first using them side by side with the Waves stuff a couple of years ago.

I'm especially fond of their Track Plug, but they have a couple of mastering oriented plugins too.

They offer unrestricted demos for all products so you don't have to speculate about how they'll run on your machine or if they'll do the job you're after.

Nice recommendation. I will try their plugins out.

I also see that they are offering 50% discounts for Students.

I am going to be taking some Recording Studio Technique classes next month so if I like their products that might work out great.

Thanks!

another vote for wave arts

trackplug 5 rules...the masterverb seems fairly decent, and the limiter is basically the same as an L2/L3

If you are pretty efficient with your plugin usage, using busses for verbs rather than multiple instances for individual tracks, etc., you should have enough horsepower for most projects running everything natively. I have a Powercore card, and I know several people with UADs. The great thing about these cards is that code efficiency becomes a secondary concern for the plugin developers, knowing they have all those MIPs of DSP to run big algorthms. If you're into a crazy number of tracks running a boat load of plugs, or if you want to run several really excellent reverbs and emulations of classic gear, while having lot's of horsepower left over for multiple VSTI's and such, these cards are worth considering.

I've had the ver.5 wave arts plugs for quite some time now and I can say that I've become less and less impressed with them as time goes on. I used to use trackplug5 all the time but now I find myself going back to the digi3 plugs almost 100% of the time. I just had a tracking session this evening so I'll give them another go.
