Best Acoustic

You're right, Treeline - and I'm not complaining! I just wanted to get some real world advice from people who actually have some of these guitars, and once again, the HR gang came through! And Tex, I'll definitely look at that Big Baby Taylor today - my wife wants a new guitar too, and that way I could equip us both. I am very lucky to actually write and play music with my better half - she's rather have a new guitar than a new wardrobe, or a new car. I sometimes think I found the only one.

I was impressed with the sound of the Big Baby, but it just looks cheap. Two screws in the fretboard, totally visible. No binding or purfling, no gloss. That's a lot of money for a guitar that doesn't have much protection. It does sound astounding though for a small guitar.
Also, the Larrivee's sound delicious too. The one beef I have is that lately they seem to be getting more and more sloppily made. For the money though, ($600-900) they are great. Check out www.wildwoodguitars for the absolute best Taylor prices. www.buffalobros.com is a great site too, but they are a few dollars more (not much).

Those screw heads in the neck of the Big Baby are ugly but they dont get in the way. I wouldnt want one as a main show piece guitar but I was thinking of getting one to use for open tunings and stuff.
 
You have an old D-28 and you want something better????????
I have an Epiphone SJ-200 which is basically a copy of the Gibson J-200. Suprisingly enough It has a big full sound, is built like a tank and stays perfectly in tune. I have been totally pleased with this guitar for the past 5 years, wouldnt trade it for the world

It's a great guitar, but the frets are shot, along with the intonation. I've wanted to get it refretted, but here in Miami there is NO ONE I would trust with it. I won't send it up to Nazereth, cause their repair work has gone down hill lately.
Anybody know a great fret man on the East Coast?

I like my Collings D2H. I've had it about six years. It has the Waverly tuners( I think they're standard now) and it stays in tune real well. I had Carl McIntyre put in one of his transducer pickups in it when I bought it. It has a nice sound for live, but needs some level boost.
