Those USB mixers only record to a stereo track so if you want to use it as a Multi track recording interface then it isn"t the correct mixer....

You need a Mixer with a Firewire interface if you want to have multiple seperate recording channels....

Cheers

There are only a few USB mixers that allow you to record several tracks at a time, there aren"t many because USB just isn"t suited for multiple audio tracks...

Most all multi channel mixer interfaces are firewire and there are many but are also more expensive than USB mixers...

here is a list of firewire interfaces at a online music store....

http://www.zzounds.com/a--2676837/cat--Firewire-Audio-Interfaces--2420

Since I don"t know what type of set up you want (Number of channels, Features, ect) or how much you want to spend I can"t really make a recomendation.....

Cheers

The main thing I'm looking for in the mixer is that it has at least 8 mic inputs. Ill have 5 or 7 (not sure yet) drum mics, plus a condenser as an overhead mic.

Minion, could you point out the USB mixers that can record to separate tracks? I have no firewire ports and a new computer is more than a few years away.

those behringer mixers don't even have integrated usb connectivity-- they come with a separate little 2 i/o via rca usb interface.

does your computer have usb 2.0? that may be your best option as there are a few multi i/o interfaces for usb 2.0 now. if you have a desktop, you can add a pci firewire card to give you more options relatively cheaply. if you have a laptop, you can add a cardbus adapter to give you firewire connectivity, or use a cardbus compatible interface (e-mu makes some good, affordable ones).

What USB Firewire mixers would you recommend?

fyi, there are no "USB Firewire mixers"

I would suggest that you just get a PCI Firewire card, I got one on e-bay for $2 a while back......

One of the cheaper firewire interfaces with 8 mic inputs would probably be this:

There are litterally several dozzen different FW Interface models on the market but most aren"t Mixers....

Most interfaces aren"t mixers so recomending one that is a Mixer and an interface is hard , off the top of my head you should look into the "Alessis Multi-mix FW" which act as mixers and as an interface.....

I use a Delta 1010LT and a Delta 44 which are PCI cards and I have a rack of 10 channels of mic preamps to connect to them...It is a simple system but it works extremely well and was very cheap...It cost about $225 for both PCI cards and it gives me 12 analogue inputs 2 digital inputs and Midi...I built the Mic preamps myself so I can"t give you a cost on them but you could probably buy 10 channels of cheap but useable preamps for under $200.....

Good luck

PS: I did a quick look on line and I couldn"t Find Any USB interfaces with 8 mic inputs that would record to seperate tracks, at least not one that would be affordable..I saw one MOTU USB unit that would work but it was $750 and I saw the new M-Audio fast track ultra but it only had 4 Mic inputs and was about $500...Cheaper to get a Firewire card and a firewire interface it seems...

My needs to not for an 8 channel mixer. I only need 2 channels.

When you say PCI card, I assume you are talking about the computers sound card. I have been told my computers soundcard is not upgradeable. My need is for a 2 channel USB interface/mixer that will allow me to record to separate tracks in my DAW. Is there a product that will accomplish this.?

I am not looking for anyone to do my homework for me, if you could point out the key words I should be looking for in my search, that would be great!

If you have a PCI slot on your PC than Yes your Sound card is Upgradeable, you just disable the one that is built into your PC and install the new one...

as for a 2 channel interface most all USB interfaces are 2 channel so take your Pick....

:D

Thanks Minion, I will do some hunting and see if I have a PCI slot.
