Thanks for the advice everyone, really appreciate it. :) I don't think it is worth it at all now that I've read everything you guys have said. I got a shit load of stuff I should be doing/practicing/honing to my technique/methods that will make much bigger impact on my recordings. :)

Hi there,
The interface IS pretty basic as you can get. The "mate" wasn't! Should have gone for the M-Audio. However, the Berry should be ok with a bit of care and work.

It is a 16bit only device and that means you need to be more vigilant about levels. Keep recordings at around -16 to -12 in Reaper. I would guess the box is on a par with the UCA 202 and that is quite useful but you have to watch that you do not exceed about -6dBFS or you get nasty clipping. To put this in context, a better AI such as the M-Audio Fast track pro would record at 24 bits and allow an average level of -18 to -10dBFS meaning clipping was all but avoided.

If we assume Windows 7? Dig into the sound setup menus and adjust the recording levels. Win7 sets them much too high by default and that's where the HF whistles come from. The interface is about on a par I would say with a good Dolby cassette recorder/O.R. machine and you have to use it with the same care over noise and distortion.

Other shortcomings are the lack of a high impedance guitar input (but you can use a Boss or other (cough!) buffered pedal). This was bloody daft of Behringer's since it would have cost nowt to make the line in HighZ!

If a new AI is on the horizon the Steinberg UR22 looks good at about £100 but at nearly twice the price the NI Komplete Audio6 is the real dog's whatsits IMHO.

Dave.

Thanks for the advice Dave, I do tend to keep all the levels/gain pretty low on this thing, find the best setting is when I don't do anything at all and leave everything at 50%/0. Hence all my songs are pretty quiet.

Weird thing is I picked the MAudio out myself, after reading reviews and that. But this mate used to own a recording studio, so I figured he must know what he's talking about. Guess he wasn't thinking I would amount to much so I might as well get the cheapest thing. Well, he was right about that at least! :D

Hold shift and hit enter for a new line without sending. ;)

Sorry Frits. Sorta took over your thread there.

No worries, it's good to know. I might potentially want to add some further interesting girl facts to my own signature. Like that we never fart and stuff.

I actually received a warning from the admins to remove the extra lines...so I did.
fritsthegirl Sorry for taking over this forum.

It might not be an issue with the interface it could be an issue with your computer, restarting your computer to clear up something usually means something is out of whack, the interface shouldn't be the problem but you haven't mentioned anything about the computer you are using so I can't really offer and advice.
