I know behringer has a low budget feel and they copied certain gear. But you can pick them up for next to nothing.

I'm always looking for cheap vintage gear to use more as an effect than perfectness.

Recently got the mdx1000 compressor and really like it. Heard a lot of bad comments on the later compressors so i wondered which compressors from Behringer would be a "hidden" gem ;)

The mdx 1000 was based on the dbx160 from what I understand.

On the behringer part i own the Edison and intelifexII which i both really like to put on drums or rhythm guitars (subtle)

If I was using a Hardware Compressor I would get the Behringer 369 Precision Stereo Compressor - decent piece of kit - very inexpensive on the used market too.

The few Behringer compressors I've used (which does not include the 369) ranged from meh to godawful. I think the MDX1000 was in the meh category and the MDX 4600 4-channel compressor was in the bad category. Even in bypass, it literally caused an audible degradation of the sound. I liked my actual dbx units better. I had an original Project 1 266 and some 166 units of different vintages. I also liked my Presonus ACP88 despite the gates being a little touchy.

If you should come accross a Behringer 'V-Verb Pro' rack reverb unit, just snap it up.
It is excellent, but got dis-continued, because it didn't sell well.
I treasure mine.
