Behringer V-Amps

Can anyone explain the difference between the V-Amp and the BASS V-amp?? Although this might sound fairly obvious, they both appear to be for normal guitars. I wouldnt want to buy the Bass model and miss out on guitar effects and vice versa. Is there a difference in them?

The bass V-amp has bass amplifier models. FX will tend to be aimed at famous bass FXs also. But the biggest thing is gonna be that it'll have all bass amp models . And yes, when you buy either of them you'll miss out on the things that only the other one has.
What do you mainly play?
 
well its kinda tricky because I play both on the same guitar. I double my guitar as a bass by tweaking the settings (using a fat pick, selecting the right pickup, turning the treble down and the bass up, compression and EQ etc...) so I was kinda torn between which to go for. I suppose the normal (blue) one then maybe I should invest in a bass and get the other sometime seperately.

before I do so - are the any other (rackmount) pieces of gear similar to this I should check out?
 
IMHO having used V-amp stuff both guitar & bass

Well , I have a POD 2.0 which is gonna be the closest equivalent and I find the V-Amp to sound better almost always. I also have a J-Station and a couple of Digitechs and the V-Amp is absolutely comparable .....
it is, however, built fairly lightweight. You don't wanna drop it or treat it roughly. But soundwise it's really in the same ballpark as the other modelers.
 
Besides bass patches, the Bass VAmp has patches for electric guitar, acoustic guitar and keyboards. I have both the "pro" guitar and bass versions, and I find the bass model to be a lot more versatile.

fair do's, maybe I'm biased as I've been using line 6 gear for 4-5 years now & I just havn't felt happy with what I've had out of V-amp stuff. I havn't used it enough to be an authority, I've always felt rushed to get a sound out of it with the producer breathing down my neck :(

I use a pod XT live now & I also have a pod 2.0 which I don't like.............pernickety bastard of a thing that seems not to want to go clean

the XT live is bombproof & waterproof just about!!! as I found out when a female saw player spilled part of her beer on to it

I freaked as it was brand new on it's first outing & I've never wanted an instrument to slip so badly in my life

fuckin' arty farty bitch. I could see her split up the middle as her saw slipped (but it didn't)

a laugh was the sound man trying to position an SM58 on this thing to amplify it

Ltbob..................is the J-station, Johnston?? I remember trying a Johnston amp & ended up with the line 6 AX2212

So your saying it has patches that are not obvious on the panel, right? Do you happen to know if the 'regular' (non-pro) version has the same thing? (yeah, I know, look it up you lazy *%&)

I've got a POD 2.0 and a regular non-bass Vamp-2. As much as I hate Behri for their practices, I actually prefer the Vamp for sound AND quality, believe it or not.

I've been thinking about getting the bass version, too.

So the XT Live is better than the 2.0 as far as quality? That's good to hear, because I was pretty much writing off Line6 based on my 2.0 experience (include upgrading and support-or lack thereof). I couldn't imagine jerks like that running a successful company.

Yes it is ..... a fairly nice unit. Mine stays in my truck behind the seat for emergencies. I'm mostly a live player so I have the J-Station handy if my guitar amp goes out. And I use it for my bass rig too ...... the J-Station into a Crown into an SVT cab.

No, it's all right there on the front panel. It's just designed for different uses.

The only difference between the pro and regular, so far as I know, is that the pro version has more connectivity options.

Actually mine is a 4-10" cab. Specifically it's a SVT 410 HLF .... it's ported to go down lower for 5 strings. Then I set a Gallien Kruger 2-10" on top of that. I run one channel of the Crown to the 4-10's and the other to the 2-10's and then I set channel balances 'till it's where I like it. Fairly portable for being a full out big stage rig and since bass isn't my main axe right now, it's good enough that I'm not spending any money on more.

So what do you think of the A/D on the unit? Is it good enough to take out to the track, or do you go analog out to your soundcard/interface?

I always go analog out, so I don't know. I've read of others using the SPDIF with no problems.

Just out of curiousity, which Crown? I'm looking to put together a small bass rig like that, only smaller. Modeler=>power amp=>small cab.

It's a Crown Power Base 2. I don't think they make them anymore ...... but it's around 350 watts a side I believe.

Yep, the Power-Base units have been out of production for a few years. I use a PB-1 for my passive monitors in my studio, though. Great amp.
