I was really excited when I got this, but it is way too noisy! So noisy that it is unusable! I dunno...maybe I have some settings wrong, but even with the gain and treble turned way down there is still a very audible hiss noise that registers 2-3db on my recorder with no sound. Anyone else have problems with this?

I have one on order.
The new s/n spec is supposedly 90 dB.You have a noise level of
-2 dB on a clean patch with no notes playing?Sounds like a defective unit. One tip I heard if you are referring to the high gain patches is that the gain is maxed on all those patches as a default. But it sounds from your post like you may have got a bad 'un.
UPS tracking says my v-amp2 will be delivered tomorrow. After I have a chance to put it through its paces I'll post a better reply. But I sure hope my unit doesn't hum as bad as yours or back it goes.

Hmmm....I didn't know that the gain is set at maximum for all presets. Admittedly I haven't run through ALL the presets, but I'll hjave to go back and investigate that. I was ready to return it. But even the acoustic settings give me bad problems, so we'll see...

I upgraded my V-amp1 Eprom to the 2.
Yes, it is noisy. My tones aren't particularly loaded with gain, so I don't have too much of a noise problem.
But you start to turn the gain past 10 or 11 o'clock, and it'll start to get pretty nasty. I do find the inherent hum/hiss of the unit distracting. In a mix it's not bad...I assume it's just like having a real, big ol', noisy tube amp :-)

Keep in mind it is Behringer, so you kinda' have to expect a defective unit here and there. I haven't had a any noise issues whatsoever with mine. Like Shag says, be careful with the gain control . . . it's supposed to be noisier when you crank that. And some of the presets and effects can be noisy, also, but again I think it's supposed to be that way.

You also might want to try different variations on your volume knobs.
Like turn your preset volume all the way up and keep your master low, or vice versa.

I also have to make sure the halogen light bulbs are turned off around here, and I'm far enough away from my 21" computer monitor, my cables aren't tangled up and picking up interference somewhere...etc. Every little bit helps.

I have the V-amp 1 and it is very noisy (hiss, not gain buzz) also. I've found that it's usable if you can keep the master volume control as low as possible.
I was hoping that the "2" would be quieter, but it doesn't sound like it is.

If you're tracking to a DAW, Waves X-Noise (in the Restoration Bundle) does a STELLAR job of getting rid of noise without wrecking signal quality.

Well,my v-amp 2 arrived and I've played all the patches at high volume through my PA.There were two or three high gain voices that were hummin mamma jammas, just like a cranked tube amp, but it is not an intrinsic charactoristic of the overall sound.Use of the noise gate should tame even those bad boys.Octoruss,I suspect that you got a defective unit. Most of the patches are dead quiet when I'm not playing, including most crunch patches.
At first blush,I am impressed how closely the modelled tones emulate the real thing.Better than the j-station I've had for two years now.I don't have the pod,so no comparison there.I would definately recommend the v-amp 2 as bang for the buck gear.

Wow--interesting. It sounds like I have a defective unit considering the hiss is considerable, even on clean patches and low volume. Curses, Musician's Friend!

Curses Behringer.

It's always a die roll with their stuff. Sometimes, you get lucky and other times you just gotta' test the return policy. It's the price you pay for getting such good stuff so cheap.

Here's a tune I recorded with a client. It's basically just a demo (complete with cheezy electric drums), but it will give you a very good idea of the various sounds the V-amp is capable of. This one has about 5 of the different amp models on it. And keep in mind the guitar wasn't that great, either.

The tune is called "Drifter" (2nd one down on the list). "Walk Like a Target" is another example using all V-amp :

My dealer friend has had about 10 V-amps go through his business and EVERY ONE has hissed like crazy!!

this might help ur case if you r using ur V-amp around a TV or pc monitor. Turn them off and see if that helps. My pickups pick up alot of noise when PC monitor/TV are on, especially facing them.

just a thought

Usually, with a single coil pickup near to a computer monitor ( cheapo ) or some types or eletric equipment can induce some noise. I dont know if its your case, but answered many questions to me, as I was playing near an old samsung syncmaster.

Actually, the VAMP is quite isolated--so I don't think its any sort of interference. Back to the shop it goes....

Not in my case either. It's not guitar/amp type noise. It's a hiss, and it doesn't change whether there's a guitar plugged into it or not. It just goes up or down with the master level.
I'm thinking it's got something to do with 240v mains power here in Australia?

I just gigged with ny new v amp2 wednesday night through a Hafler P1200 and a cab with an ElectroVoice 12L at typical club levels for classic rock.Only noisy patches for me were a single high gain one I use for rock solos. And you can clean those up by either backing off the gain a little bit (still plenty of crunch) or using the adjustable noise gate.

Maybe the wallwart ?
Overhere in Brazil we dont use those 3 pins plugs, just 2. Some power adaptors seems to make less noise when you invert the way they are plugged ...

I've had the V-amp for a few months now and at first I hated the noise but there are ways around it if you mess with the settings.

I've played a J-station before also and it does the exact same thing.

Another thing to look into is your pickups, I have some guitars that the PU's are really noisy and some that are not as bad and then I have humbuckers which aren't noisy at all.

I got all kinds of noise at first when using a crappy cord. :) Changed to a brand new one and the noise went away. Otherwise, the crappy cord sounds fine on everything else.

Hmmm. ? ?

Don't laugh. I'm serious. :) Could it be that the V-amp II is just more picky about the condition of the cord? It sounds pretty screwy, but I've heard of stranger phenomenon.
