Hi,

I need to get a set of active monitors for my small home studio and my buget is around, let's say $1000 CAD ($600 USD)......

I know that this price range doesn't offer many quality options....but I have heard that the Behringer Truth's are about the best bang for the buck in the under $1000 category....

So, I've been 'trying' to check out a pair....but for some strange reason....every bloody music store here in the city of Toronto is "out of stock" and nobody seems to know just WHEN they might be getting some.....

IF any of you folks out there are using these speakers please let me know the scoop.....most of the write-ups on the web are quite positive/good, but I just can't seem to get my 'ears' around a set :-)

Any feedback - is much appreciated...

"Cheers"

KEV

I have truths and I like them a lot. I'm not a sound expert by any means, and God knows you can spend a bit more and get better monitors, but the truths give me what I need; the truth about what my mixes sound like. And it translates perfectly to all the different playback sources I try. Check ebay. That's where I picked mine up new last year and have been happily mixing ever since. There is a legal tussel going on right now with Behringer, and that may well be why you can't find them in the retail stores at the moment. That's just speculation on my part though. Good luck!

I tried to get truths at one time, but they're almost impossible to get. (ordered november of 2001, still on backorder) And as I researched more, I decided I dont want them anymore anyway. Look at the Tannoy Reveal Active or the Event 20/20's

yeah, I've actually listened to the Tannoy's....and they do sound pretty good.... (they are $1200 Cdn a pair here in Toronto)...but surprising enough....they don't really sound much different than our own locally Canada made powered Yorkville YSP-1's which only cost $740 Cdn....so, I was hoping the Behringer Truth might be a good alternative at somewhere in between the two - performance & price wise, etc...

IF I ever get to actually listen to them :-)

KEV

how could tannoys cost 1200 when they list at 800? Maybe ur talking about the tannoy 800A's?

I'll have to check out those yorkvilles.

I'm talking $1200 Cdn dollars here, which is approx $800 USD - as you should know :-)

To tyler...

Yeah, the Toronto made Yorkvilles have actually been around since the 1960's...they've made some pretty decent group gear too over the years, amps, speakers, PA cabs, etc etc.....although, I think folks around these parts tend to always go for the more 'well known' monitors brands, etc.

I listened to a set of the new active Yorkville YSP-1's (135 Watts per side) the other day...alongside with the Tannoy's...and the Event 20/20's....for about 1 hour, changing back n forth....and at $740 Cdn ($520 USD)...with my eyes shut I couldn't really tell the bloody difference between the three sets.

I was surprised at the quality for the price.... so I thought, OK I'll buy local Canadian made monitors - why not?.....then I heard everyone talking about the Behringer Truth's...so, hence my sudden interest....

KEV

I know Yorkville is good. My church has their amps. I just never realized they made monitors. Or I might have, but just figured they were crap since they dont really specialize in recording.
