Hi,
I eventually want to have a setup that includes an HD24xr and a Yamaha 01v96. Since I can't afford both pieces at once, how would a Behringer MX2004A mixer (I already own) work in conjunction with the HD24 till I can afford a 01v96?

FYI, the mx2004a has 8 xlr ins (and 1/4" line ins) and 8 1/4" direct outs. How would I hook up for record AND playback?

Chris

Hi Chris,

I have an HD24 and a friend of mine owns the Behringer desk so I am familiar with both.

What I would normally do in this situation is to hook up the 8 direct ous to the first 8 ins on the HD24 and the first 8 outs on the HD24 to the line inputs on the mixer, then use the mic/line switch to switch between the tape return and the mic ins. However - the 2004a doesn't have a mic/line switch.

You might want to try and find a desk with a mic/line switch as this lack of switch is a bit of a pain for recording situations.

When you do find a desk - you can use the HD24's input normalising to route the first eight ins to any of the other tracks. How you monitor all 24 outs in another thing altogther.

Interesting I read your post because I'm thinking of buying an 01v96 as a partner to my HD24. I'm using an Allen & Heath GS3 at present which is 24:8:24:2 - I picked mine up for £350 s/h so keep your eye out for s/h desks you might get something a bit more suitable for the task at a bargain price.

Cheers,

Stu

Well Stu,
I actually went with a setup that includes the HD24 w/o the XR expansion and for a mixer, I chose the Behringer DDX3216. I like what I have and I saved a thousand or so in US dollars to throw toward a great Microphone and other accessories. I will eventually get a great sounding preamp to offset the Behringer's built-in's but, for now, I am semi-pleased with the sound quality.

I think my biggest hurdle will be the actual space in which I make the recordings and not the equipment itself. I recorded a Christian rock group in an empty house with no treatments what so ever unless you count the mini-blinds as treatment, Ha! Ha! I was suprised at how it sounds. While not sounding great, it wasn't terrible either.

Thanks for the advice. I appreciate it!!!!!!

Chris
