hi

i have an offer to buy an behringer mx-8000 including the meterbridge for about $700. it's half a year old and seems to be in pretty good condition.
But what is more important:
Is it a good one? Does anyone know the Behringer MX-8000? A friend told me that it produces a lot of noise.
so I ask for your advice.

thanks a lot

fred

I'd pass if I were you.... do a search on the words Mackie and Behringer to find out why.

well i agree with you, but i aint got the money to buy a mackie similar to the behringer (i need at least 16 channel).
over here in germany mackies are really expensive. Is the difference really that big?
I mean, i just wanna do some punk gigs, where people are already filled up with beer. can anyone tell me the real differences in quality, maybe some figures, and not just the (-I think- subjective) opinion "be**** sucks".

fred

*My* comments come from direct A/B comparison... not simply subjective opinion. I can't speak for others.

For me, the difference is more than worth it.... it is the difference between eminently usable and "how can anyone work like this???".

And the Mackies aren't all that hot either, but they are usable, with care. The Behringer doesn't even rate!

But, hey, if it works for you, that's all that should count!

I have watched people slam Behringer mixers for 2 years now.

Entnow, if you have the offer, take it! They are good enough to start out with and for live sound in a small punk club, I think everyone is crazy to tell you the mackie will sound better. NO ONE would ever be able to tell!!!!!!!!!!!

As for recording, when I started my humble little studio, I was able to bring home a Mackie 24-8 and a Behringer MX9000. The Behringer stayed in my studio. The Mackie was slightly cleaner with less noise at high gains however, dollar for dollar, the Behringer gave me more options at a fraction of the cost. Currently, I have 2 MX9000 tied together for a total of 124 inputs at mix down.

Like you, when I bought my first board, money was a huge issue but I knew what my long term goal was and after using my Behringers for 2 years and being pissed on by a lot of people in these forums, I am now ready and able to make the next big step which will either be an Amek or a Soundcraft Ghost. If it wasnt for starting out with the Behringer and being able to put it to work right away...........................actually, I will re-word that, my Behringer boards are paying for my new one.

Do I feel it was a mistake to go with the Behringer? Not on your life!! The money I saved at the beginning over the Mackie, Bought me a Presonus VXP mic pre and a Yamaha SPX90.

Thats right, $2000 less and its paid for my upgrade about a year and a half sooner!!

The choice is yours but especially for live sound with punk, figure out what you want to do in the future and if it works for you, go with the Behringer!!!!!!

I dunno about that.
If given the option to buy a Behringer for $400, a Mackie for $800 or a Allen & Heath for $1200, I'd buy the A & H in a second, the Mackie after that, and I wouldn't buy the Behringer unless I thought I could resell it for about $200 profit the next day. Settling for less is exactly what it is.

I like that, think thats my new quote from now on.

I agree with tubedude especially if you want to record with it (you didn't mention that in your post...you just said beer filled punk gigs).

...and it is $700. Have you checked the internet for prices?

A friend of mine has an Allen Heath and it is an EXCELLENT board! Don't settle unless you have...

1) Checked all prices first
2) Really have to - and it meets your needs

peace.

well, i've been checking prices for two months now, and contacted and asked (like you) everyone!

and...hey, i bought it!

a friend of mine said: if you have money, spend it!!!
and I think it's really the best thing I could do. I mean, why should I wait another 3 months saving every penny I put my fingers on? Now I have this one, we are playing all the time and we have a lot of fun!!!
I say:

Sound sucks, its all about the music!!!

despite this, i wanna thank you for your advice.

fred

...then it meets your needs...and that's cool.

good luck man!

Basically Nuss I agree with you, I have used both Mackies and Behringers in a lot of different venues and while I do prefer the sound of the Mackie, that is not my main reason for recommending them. Almost all the Behringer boards seemed to have needed repair after an unreasonably short period of use, it seems they simply arent as sturdy as the Mackies, or soundcrafts, and while drunk punk fans may not be able to tell the difference between the two boards, they certainly can tell the difference between a good show and a cancelled show.
