Behringer MDX4600 Compressor

I need to buy a compressor (tight budget). I was looking on musicians friend and ran across the Behringer MDX4600 Multicom Pro-XL Compressor for $129. Does this sound like a decent buy for someone beginning home recording? Allow me to explain my current set up. I have a SM-57 running into a Behringer 1202 Eurorack and then into my sound card. Please give me your thoughts and suggestions. Would it be preferable to get a mic pre amp before I buy a compressor. I can't afford it all at once.

well you essentially already have a preamp in your mixer. question is how much you would want to spend. i'd say go for a compressor first. not sure about that one though. look on ebay for a dbx.

Spend just $89 and get the older Composer Pro.
Has excellent siblance control along with a Peak Limiter

I looked on ebay for dbx compressors but there are so many ranging in price from $80 all the way up to $600. Can you recommend a specific one?

by board he means mixing board aka mixer aka mixing console.

Works great for me with my limited talent and experience (oh yeah and budget) It's one of those "all in one" boxes with expander/gate and compressor/limiter and you can side chain it too to control sibilence, etc. It's also a dual channel that you can run as dual or coupled with channel one as master. The LED meters switch from input to output levels with a button. Also has a bypass switch. I think they run about $80 on ebay although there's one on there right now at $30 (but 6 days left).

Yo' D.D., all Beh's dynamic processors have a bypass control however the way most of these switches were built, there are occassions when you must repeatedly press the switch 4-5+ times on some units to enter or exit the particular function.

Monkubus, you better jump on that e-bay joint! @ $30, that's a real deal-Holyfield!

Thanks for the suggestions guys. Oh and the board I'm using is behringer eurorack 1202. But now I have another problem. when I try to record, all my levels look good on the mixer. I run out of the mixer into my sound card (came with the computer so I'm sure it's not that great) into the line in. but now my computer isn't picking up any sound at all! it's like the line is muted but I've made sure that it wasn't, so I don't know what's going on. Any suggestions? Right now I'm running from the Main Out on the board into my sound card. I record using sonic foundry.
