Okay, maybe not pure genius, but is it just me, or is this one great piece of gear?

Even at higher price points, I don't know of a Headphone Amp that is as flexible, with as many options for mixes as this one.
( 'cept Samson's copy maybe:rolleyes: )
Why am I making such a big deal about it? I don't know, just bored I guess, and wanted to see if anyone agrees with me.

could be an urban legend

but i have read postings from people who claim that their behringer headphone amps caught fire in the rack.

scary, but could have as much merit as the audi your-car-will-accelerate-out-of-control-if-you-touch-the-break scare in the 80's.

ask this guy if he is shitting us

"I'd say this is my first studio fire, but I had one other fire in my studio. A Behringer headphone amp............a loooooong time ago

Thanks in advance,

If it was a long time ago, then it was probably the older version, the HA4400 right?

Right?

How can I ask him? Is he on this board, where did you get the quote?

Maybe I should call home right now & make sure mine is turned off?:D

i got that from RAP

just google groups search

headphone amp behringer fire

you get a lot of hits from the guy

How do you guys install this phone amp ? In the control room or in the live room(s) ???

Would there be any problem running kinda long phone cables from the ctrl to the tracking room (10-15m = 30-50ft) ???

I mean, I just found out my behrie mixer crapped out on 2 channels, but a phone distribution amp isn't part of the critical signal chain, right? (except if it catches fire  , be sure to have a separate 2h fire-rated rack for it :D :D :D )

I wanted a headphone amp, but have been kind of scared to try Behringer gear due to all the horror stories (and I hadn't heard about the fire thing). Instead I got an ART HPFX. It's a four-way headphone splitter that also can "pick off" signal from two mics, effect it (reverbs, delays, and slap echos), and feed it into the headphone mix while outputting a dry mic signal to your pre-amps!

Very handy for "headphone jamming" with others and costs about the same as the other headphone amps. Though I have yet to use it for this, it also seems like a good way to monitor a computer recording setup. Doesn't seem too likely to burst into flames, but you never can tell.

Aha, so it has built-in reverb? Not bad. I'm planning to try and be able to let my singer be in another room while I'm tracking so I don't have to use headphones at all, and then this would be very handy. He can decide how much and what type of reverb, and decide his own mix, and most importantly, he can do it without affecting what I hear at all.

I'll definiely keep that in mind for future purchase...

Regebro, that's exactly what it's for...allowing the person who's mic'ed to determine their own effect and level relative to the stereo headphone mix. The mic "throughs" even pass phantom power from your pre-amp on to the mic, according to the manual. I suspect I don't have the ear to tell if the dry mic signal that it passes on is colored at all, but I can't hear anything.

I don't think it's sold terribly well (They never really described the thing well IMO--it took me a while of comparing different descriptions to figure out even what it did) so far, and don't know how much longer it'll be on the market.

I guess you can send it a line signal too? I'd rather send the mic signal straight from the preamp to the recorder, and then back. :)

Anyway, it's almost hard to make this stuff color the sound, since it probably doesn't have any electronics between the mic in and mic "through". :)

Man I have the older HA4400 and it is not so clean. It works great, but it just has a bit of noticable distortion to it. I would not suggest routing anything into it that is going to be recorded.

Other than that I think it is a cool little unit, and I have left it on for days without realizing it is on. So I am not so worried about the fire thing.
