I have purchased two of these units because I have a lot of unbalanced gear which I want to feed to other balanced gear through balanced patchbays (eg PX3000). However I find that the outputs of the DI800 are mic level, so would like to know if it is really possible to route MIDI modules and unbalanced soundcards through it, and if so, isn't it abnormal to use instruments on the mic input of mixer?

Go for it!

That's the whole point of DIs . . . they convert whatever you shove into them (line, instrument, whatever) into balanced mike level output, which is neat and dandy for the mixer

Many thanks.

One more question. Normally I would, for most connections like to route through patchbays as I said earlier. However I read in a Behringer PX2000 manual not to do so for mic level signals as the level is too low and delicate. Well that would be bad since it would make it difficult to keep changing between mic and line level inputs to mixer. Hope you get the point.
